About the Initiative

E4Impact has been a consultant for ASSEK for the Agri Jobs For Youth Initiative to deliver on the following:
Business, Policy, and Regulatory Analysis

  • Mapping and analyzing prevailing agri-food business and investment facilitation barriers for youth in the Western region of Kenya (e.g., through surveys, key informant interviews, and qualitative user journeys of agripreneurs);
  • Conducting market and value chain analyses of the agri-food sector to determine sustainable market potential, opportunities, and the necessary policies and systems to support agri-food enterprises;
  • Highlighting strategic entry points and undertakings for enhanced youth participation in the agri-food sector to increase more youth-driven agri-food enterprises; • Mapping out and identifying capacity gaps of local ESOs, SME, and MSME intermediaries in nurturing and supporting the start, growth, and development of agri-food enterprises;
  • Conducting stakeholder analysis of the relevant partners and local ecosystem actors in the 5 counties the project is being implemented as well as the larger Lake Regional Economic Block in an effort to leverage and strengthen partnerships to enhance further knowledge sharing and problem-solving at the grass-root level;
  • Providing strategic recommendations on how ASSEK can collaborate with government bodies, agencies, and institutions such as KALRO, and KIRDI to create a catalyst for government institutions in MSMEs to interact and work closely with grassroots players;
  • Developing a summarized document on inter-ministerial policies relevant to Agri-preneurship such as the Start-Up Bill and other legal policies pertinent to the sector;
  • Providing strategic recommendations and implementation strategies to improve and catalyze the agribusiness environment through policy intervention e.g. by lobbying along with prioritized business barriers (e.g. with a focus on registration, licensing, inter-county trade amongst others);
  • From the analysis, recommend 3-5 table topics in convening and hosting public-private dialogues with governmental, non-governmental, private sector, ESOs, and Startup Communities to foster conducive environments on agri-food policies.

Conduct Business Compliance Training for Key Stakeholders

  • Design a customized capacity-building program and train the trainer manual/ toolkits and templates to inform and educate stakeholders in the agriculture sector on the business or market environment, relevant policies, regulations, and compliance requirements;
  • Conduct the training session for key stakeholders (an estimated 30 pax) on agribusiness incubation and compliance with the existing regulations.
