Vijana in KilimoBizz Injects Over KES 40M into 13 Youth-Led Agribusinesses, Powering Growth and Impact

Nairobi, Kenya- With KES 40,428,219 million invested in 13 youth-led agribusinesses and over 2,400 direct and indirect jobs created, the Vijana in KilimoBizz initiative is demonstrating how youth agripreneurship can drive inclusive, scalable growth in Kenya. Through targeted investment, structured incubation, and tailored mentorship, the programme transforms innovative ideas into thriving businesses, strengthening food systems, expanding market linkages, and generating opportunities for young people and women in both rural and urban communities. At the same time, it strengthens local farming communities by providing technical support, access to inputs, and guaranteed market linkages, ensuring that smallholder farmers directly benefit from these growing enterprises.

Launched by the World Food Programme (WFP) and the Mastercard Foundation and implemented by E4Impact, Vijana in KilimoBizz positions agribusiness not just as a livelihood option but as a market-driven pathway for employment, innovation, and sustainable development across the agrifood value chain. Following the 2023 pitching competitions, 13 youth-led enterprises—Ajema Foods, Yarsi Foundation, Gurar Nectar, TERIC, Kitirikamba Youth Group, Aadin Honey, Tusmo Farm, Greenmeal Feeds, Agri-Innovation Hub, Empire Innovation, Candy Cream, Ipop Limited, and Swift River Kuku, progressed into structured incubation, acceleration, and grant implementation phases. With hands-on technical assistance, mentoring, and business development support from E4Impact, these entrepreneurs strengthened operational foundations, refined growth strategies, and enhanced readiness for scale.

During the 2023–2025 period, the programme disbursed a total of KES 40,428,219 in phased tranches under Track 1 and Track 2, ensuring accountability and milestone-driven implementation. These investments enabled critical improvements in processing equipment, cold storage, irrigation systems, laboratories, packaging machinery, and post-harvest infrastructure. Field monitoring visits that year confirmed that the funds were being used as intended, with equipment installations, infrastructure development, and early operational improvements verified across the supported enterprises.

Follow-up monitoring visits conducted in the last quarter of 2025 provided further evidence of sustained impact. Programme teams conducted on-site assessments and recorded video documentation capturing enterprise growth stories and beneficiary testimonials. The visits revealed how initial investments had translated into long-term business strengthening, improved operational systems, and enhanced linkages with local farmers. Entrepreneurs reported increased production volumes, diversification of product lines, and expanded market access, while demonstrating stronger financial management, better quality control systems, and progress toward certification and regulatory compliance. Many enterprises also adopted innovative technologies, particularly in processing, storage, digital tracking, and climate-smart agricultural practices, boosting efficiency, resilience, and productivity.
