About the challenge

An Innovation challenge targeting young people with innovative solutions in the agriculture sector. The inaugural challenge was launched on 15th May 2023 and the call for applications was closed on 30th June 2023. For national coverage and to spread the opportunity to a wider group of young people, the challenge was open for the early/ideation stage (track 1) and the growth stage (track 2) innovations across various regional blocs. After an intense and rigorous evaluation process that also involved training and boot camps, 13 innovations emerged as winners:

Track 1 Winners
Track 2 Winners

The teams of the winning enterprises were enrolled in an incubation and acceleration programme for training and capacity building; allowing them to scale their enterprise and bear greater influence in Kenya’s food security. These winners also received grants as direct investment towards improving and scaling their innovations. The challenge is spearheaded by the World Food Programme, funded by Mastercard Foundation and implemented by E4Impact Kenya. Learn more about the program here
